Offshore Requirements
Applications on offshore oil rigs and FPSO vessels pose special problems for valves in general and and line blinds in particular. These include:
- Corrosive salt sea atmosphere;
- Weather conditions;
- Entrained solids in the media (sand, weld slag and pipe scaling);
- High pressure applications;
- Operator abuse;
- Stringent safety procedures
Corrosion issues due to salt sea atmosphere can be largely eliminated by applying a Sermetal coating and epoxy paint to the body, using monel stems, stainless bolting, and brass or alloys thereof for the spectacle plate. We can also provide complete bodies in Duplex or Super Duplex or other exotic alloys.
Stormy or rapidly changing weather conditions make speed and ease of operation an important factor offshore. The Cam-Set is a fast acting line blind valve. Thanks to its counter balance system large sized blinds above 20 inches can be swung in less than 60 seconds.
Safety
To enhance safety Fetterolf has modified its actuator arm of Offshore Cam Sets to withstand the maximum force of an operator applying his full body weight with a cheater on the hand wheel of the Cam-Set. Other Offshore enhancements include body reinforcements, stem covers and special o-rings. The combination of our standard Cam-Set and development for Offshore result in the following
- 100% positive isolation - Safety matters!
- No special tools or crane required
- Quick swing time - reduce down time
- One side; one person operation - easy of use
- Special Materials and coatings - protection from the environment
- Reinforced for severe operating conditions
Offshore Customers
Our Offshore and Maritime customers include: Algoma tankers, Modec, Exxon, BP, the US Navy, General Dynamics, and Jurong Shipyard to name a few. Our line blind valves are certified to Lloyds Offshore standard and to DNV on a project basis.
