Line blind valves are used extensively in Tank Farms. They are not only used to ensure safety during maintenance operations, but are required to provide product separation and isolation between different hydrocarbon storage tanks.

As the blinds in these applications are often swung several times a day, speed of operation and ease of use are important features.

Fetterolf provides both a swing Cam-Set and sliding type Cam-Slide of line blind for tank storage applications. They have the following key critical characteristics:

  • 100% positive isolation
  • No special tools or crane required
  • Quick swing time
  • One side; one person operation
  • Non Line Spreading

In addition to the above benefits, the Cam-Set and Cam-Slide can be operated in less than 60 seconds even for large line blinds up to 40 inches. This is only possible on Fetterolf line blinds thanks to the addition of a counterweight mechanism that allows the spectacle plate to be swung with great ease.

Speed of operation can be of some importance in tank farms where the blinds need to be operated many times a day. In tank farms connected to loading and unloading terminals or jetties where time to change the blinds is time critical and has significant cost implications.

In certain instances space can be a constraint and Fetterolf can provide custom sized blinds for tight fit areas or Non-Spill Line Blind versions.

Case Study - GATX

GATX Terminal Corporation is ones of the worlds leading port. terminal, rail and ship operators. At their Philadelphia and New Jersey sea terminals they have replaced all traditional blinds with the Cam-Set.

They are used on 16 inch lines to ensure total isolation between tanks in order to prevent product cross contamination. Traditional line blinds could not be used as line spreading dented and buckled the tank walls. The customer has commented:
